Nursing Home Ministry

Nursing Home Ministry

Goal and Purpose

The Nursing Home Ministry is dedicated to assisting all Catholics who reside at any nursing home or assisted living facility within our parish boundaries. Each facility is visited once per week (the day varies depending on the facility). Volunteers bring the Eucharist to residents of these facilities after the 7:30 AM Mass.

Responsibilities

The Nursing Home Ministry is responsible for distributing Holy Communion to any Catholic residents of the various nursing homes and living facilities which are located within our parish boundaries.  Volunteers are responsible for getting the Eucharist from the daily Mass sacristan, traveling to and from the facility, working with other volunteers to divide up the resident list, distributing Holy Communion to the residents, and returning any remaining Hosts to the parish.

Qualifications

This ministry is open to any registered and active parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.  The volunteeer should be fully initiated into the Catholic Church (received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation).  If married, the marriage must be recognized by the Church.  Each volunteer must be fingerprinted, successfully pass a Level II background check, and complete the required diocesan Safe Environment Program.
