Hospital Ministry

Hospital Ministry

Goal and Purpose

The Saint Michael Hospital Ministry is dedicated to assisting all Catholics who are patients at Bayonet Point Hospital. Since a patient's stay in the hospital is often short, it is the goal of this ministry to send volunteers on a regular basis with Holy Communion. The hospital visits are done immediately following daily morning Mass. Usually, volunteers work in teams in order to minimize the work while still being able to visit all patients on the Catholic list.

Responsibilities

Volunteers in Hospital Ministry will be responsible for obtaining the Eucharist from the sacristan at morning Mass, working with other volunteers to divide up the patient list, getting to and from the hospital, and returning any remaining Hosts to the parish.

Qualifications

Volunteers for this ministry must be fingerprinted, successfully pass a Level II Background Screening, and complete the initial hospital volunteer requirements.  Each volunteer must also complete the diocesan Safe Environment Program requirements.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

This ministry is temporarily on hold due to the reconstruction of Bayonet Point Hospital.  As soon as the construction is completed and the chaplain's office gives us the okay to begin, we will reintroduce this ministry.  Thank you for your patience.
