Preparing to Celebrate the
Funeral Mass

Dear Family,

As a parish, we extend to you our loving embrace, and the consolation of hope in our Lord’s unfathomable mercy.
We make it our prayer that we may “bring the light of Christ’s resurrection to this time of testing and pain, as we pray for your loved one, and for those who love him or her. For it is Christ Jesus who has unlocked the gates of life for those who believe; and it is our prayer your loved one will know the forgiveness of sins, and be granted a place of happiness, light and peace in the kingdom of God’s glory for ever and ever.” (Order of Christian Funerals)

Since the very beginnings of our Church, and indeed, since the death of Our Lord, we the faithful, have stood literally and figuratively at the empty tomb: gathering together in the hope and joy of the Resurrection, in the belief your loved one enjoys “no more pain, no more suffering, but rejoices forever in the vision of Our Lord, seeing Him face to face.” (Order of Christian Funerals)
This is our faith, and we are honored to share it with you, and to extend its consolation to all in your family.

In His Name, the One from Whom all good things come, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with our own love and prayer,
The Parish Community of St. Michael the Archangel

As you prepare to celebrate the funeral of your loved one, many decisions have to be made regarding the Mass. If you so desire, we would like to include you in some of those decisions.
Below you will find selections that may be chosen for the First and Second Readings during the Mass. You may chose one reading from each section. In addition, if a family member or loved one would like to be the lector for the readings we welcome them to do so.
Feel free to chose someone from your family or friends to be the gift bearers. They will bring up the cruet of wine and the ciborium during the offertory.
You may also choose hymns for the Mass. Below you will find a selection of appropriate hymns to choose from.
Print out the selection form below and note your choices for the Mass. Please bring this into the parish office or call the parish secretary so that we may prepare for your wishes.
If you need any assistance, do not hesitate to ask. We are here for you and willing to help you in any way we can.
